E & I 2-3

I was asked to write on cyber bulling and what my thoughts were on the subject. This is a touchy subject if you ask most people and I agree. I personally believe it is on the parents and not the school to discipline their child for cyber bullying. A lot of people believe that the school should step in as well but unless it was done on school property I don't see why they should. The school has enough to deal with just trying to keep bullying out of schools and to add cyber bullying to that would be a lot to watch for. Now the parents on the other hand are fully responsible because they are capable of monitoring their child's online activity. I have a child in middle school and I not only check his online activity I limit his access to social media just for this reason. Now do not get me wrong children and teenagers aren't the only ones capable of cyber bullying adults are just as bad. The only problem is adults are smarter about remaining anonymous and this brings up another issue, the freedom to remain anonymous. There are two way I look at this, the first is those who choose to remain hidden because they are protecting themselves from someone or something. When it comes to this I believe that it is a necessary evil and that when used for this reason it is a tool for good. One the other hand there are those who use it strictly to make others miserable. Those that do this should be unmasked for all to see so that they can feel the pain they caused others. I feel these are the type of people that teenagers who chose to cyberbully turn into because they have no respect other or themselves. I believe the best way to keep this vicious cycle from happening is by stopping it early and that starts at home between parent(s) and child.
